Now that he’s not wearing an Eagles uniform, NFL safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson felt free to say whatever he wanted about the people of Philadelphia. It wasn’t all that pleasant, either.

While playing an online video game, someone paid $5 for Gardner-Johnson to answer a question. The individual asked for the defensive back to tell the world what his least-favorite thing was about Philadelphia. He didn’t hold back.

Like … at all.

“The people,” Gardner-Johnson responded. “They’re f***ing obnoxious. I f***ing can’t stand the f***ers.”

We have to admit, that type of response was well worth the $5. You don’t often hear former players trash a fan base or people within a city, but clearly Gardner-Johnson had a rough experience during his time in Philly.

Fortunately for him, the defensive back only spent one season with the Eagles. He was a member of the 2022 squad which reached Super Bowl LVII. He played a big role in Philadelphia, leading the NFL with six interceptions in 12 regular season contests.

Gardner-Johnson also accounted for 67 tackles and eight passes defended in his lone season in Philadelphia. In March, the safety was signed by the Detroit Lions to a one-year contract worth $8 million.

After hearing his comments about the people within the city, we’re guessing Philadelphia isn’t too upset by his departure. And if Eagles fans were discouraged, they probably got over it after seeing that video.

Prior to his lone year in Philly, Gardner-Johnson spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints. In those three years, the defensive back racked up 161 tackles, 28 passes defended and five interceptions.

Gardner-Johnson was a fourth-round selection out of Florida in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia fans respond to Gardner-Johnson’s comments

As you might imagine, a lot of Eagles fans took offense to Gardner-Johnson’s online comments. Several took to social media to call out the former Philadelphia safety.

“Damn bro, I’m done with this dude,” one Twitter user wrote. “Kick rocks in flip flops.”

Another individual wrote, “CJ Gardner-Johnson going from one of everyone’s favorite Eagles last year to now one of the most annoying online athletes is a huge bummer.”

“Lol you’re the epitome of obnoxious,” a third social media user said. “No wonder the Eagles moved off you.”

Unfortunately for us innocent bystanders, the Lions do not play the Eagles during the 2023 regular season. Could you imagine the type of receptions Gardner-Johnson would get if Detroit rolled into Philly this season?
