Reports have not yet revealed the circumstances surrounding Maye’s arrest. The Saints safety is at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility in Gretna, Louisiana, according to NOLA.

This news comes after the Saints opted to trade starting nickel C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles on Tuesday.

The 2017 second-round draft pick is the Saints’ starting strong safety on the depth chart with two weeks to go before the first kickoff. He plays next to another new addition , Tyrann Mathieu.

Maye signed a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints in March. They signed him the same day they lost star safety Marcus Williams to the Baltimore Ravens.

Marcus Maye played the 2021 season on a franchise tag with the Jets after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension but expressed his desire to move on with a fresh start in 2022. His new deal is worth $28.5 million over three seasons with $15 million in guaranteed money.

After going in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft at pick No. 39, Maye established himself as one of the best defensive backs in the league. In 60 career games, he posted 312 tackles with six interceptions and 24 pass deflections. Maye also has four forced fumbles and 3.5 sacks in five seasons.
