Former Florida Gator Carlos Dunlap is on the move once again. After spending the last year and a half in Seattle, the 33-year-old pass rusher heads to the most successful AFC franchise of the last four years. According to Adam Schefter and Dunlap’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on a one year deal worth up to $8 million.

Here was the report by Schefty, via Twitter:

“Veteran DE Carlos Dunlap is signing a one-year deal worth up to $8 million with the KC Chiefs, his agent @DrewJRosenhaus confirmed.”

Dunlap background

The move marks Carlos Dunlap’s third team in three years. He started out with the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2020-21 season, but forced his way out in a rather brash way after disagreements with the coaching staff over his role on the team. Cincy traded him to Seattle, where he caught on well, recording five sacks over the second half of the season.

He stuck with Seattle in 2021 as well, recording 8.5 sacks and 35 total tackles. With the Seahawks trending younger and launching themselves into a rebuild after trading longtime star quarterback Russell Wilson, Dunlap moved on to a team with a more win-now agenda in KC. And at $8 million, the Chiefs evidently liked adding a pass rusher of Dunlap’s caliber who also provides a veteran presence.

Before his tense breakup with the Bengals’ new era, Dunlap was a two-time Pro Bowler in Cincinnati and a captain of the great defenses during the Andy Dalton era — which featured five straight playoff appearances by the Bengals.

His best season came in 2015 — when Cincinnati finished 12-4 on the year and Dunlap led the way with 13.5 sacks. He also recorded sack totals of 9.5, 9.0 and three times finished with 8.0 in other years while playing in Tiger stripes. A Bengals legend for sure. And a veteran who continues to terrorize quarterbacks late into his career.
