Former Michigan star offensive tackle Taylor Lewan is now also a former Tennessee Titan. Lewan announced that he was released by the Titans via the Twitter account for “Bussin’ with the Boys,” his podcast with NFL peer Will Compton.

Lewan, who played nine seasons in Nashville with the Titans, was taken by the organization with the No. 11 pick in the 2014 draft — the third tackle taken, behind Greg Robinson and Jake Matthews. He became a steady starter for the Titans from 2015-18. Lewan was a three-time Pro Bowl selection during his tenure with the Titans.

He even got a touchdown reception on a tackle-eligible play in the red zone.

But from 2019 onward, injuries have marred Lewan’s career. He hasn’t played a full seasons worth of games since 2017. Across the past three seasons, he’s played in just 20 total games. He spent most of the 2022 season on injured reserve with a torn ACL suffered in the second game of the season.

Lewan is apparently in some hot water with his alma mater and not too happy about it, himself. In a video Lewan posted to Twitter on Tuesday ahead of the Super Bowl, he explained that Michigan had sent him some sort of cease and desist paperwork regarding merchandise tied to his podcast with Will Compton, “Bussin with the Boys.”

Lewan said that the cease and desist — he was unclear if it was just a letter from the school or an actual court order — likely relates to a T-shirt that was being sold. The T-shirt in question read “Michigan’s The Boys” in blue and yellow lettering with a cartoon wolverine wearing a sailor cap. On the cap it says “BWTB.”

That T-shirt no longer appears on the show’s merch site.

“It hurts when your alma mater gives you C&D on the T-shirts. I don’t believe it’s this hat,” Lewan said, pointing out the hat he was wearing. “I don’t think you can C&D a yellow and blue hat. Not maize. This is just yellow, which you can buy at the merch store right now. But it’s — f*ck, man. That sh*t just breaks my heart. We put ourselves out there, we love these guys, we like to think they love us back. But it just seems like a hassle sometimes.”

Lewan added that Nebraska, the alma mater of his co-host, has been receptive to licensing the merch. He also stated that he didn’t think whatever cease and desist they did get was a result of anybody on the football side of things raising a fuss.

“And I don’t think it’s [Jim] Harbaugh. I don’t think it’s Harbaugh. I think it’s the people at the University of Michigan, not the football side,” Lewan said. “And hopefully we can work something, because boys I’ll be honest, I’m hurt right now. I’m hurt and I wish there was something we could just do. Hopefully better news is to come.”
