The New England Patriots were thoroughly thrashed by the Buffalo Bills 47-17 in the first round of the NFL Playoffs on Saturday night. It was the wrong kind of history for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, his defense, and his whole team.

Here are some bitter pills for Patriots’ fans to swallow. The Bills scored touchdowns on all seven of their possessions in the game. It’s the most points a Patriots’ defense has EVER surrendered under Bill Belichick. It’s the most lopsided playoff loss for Belichick as a head coach. To top it all off, it was the worst defensive performance of his tenure in New England.

Not surprisingly, many former Patriots’ stars were watching the whipping on Saturday night and one of them, Vince Wilfork, decided to sound off on his Twitter page.

The tweet had 8,000 likes as of earlier tonight. It’s not surprising former Patriot players like Wilfork were angry, but an epic beatdown like the one on Saturday night had been a long time coming for the Patriots.

Especially coming from the Bills‘ franchise, where former New England legend Tom Brady haunted their dreams for years. Brady has a 33-3 overall record against the Bills, one of the best records by any quarterback in NFL history against a team. Most of those wins came when he was with the Patriots. Bills’ fans had been waiting for a moment like the one tonight for a long, long time.

Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen was a close to perfect as humanly possible, completing 21 of his 25 pass attempts for 308 passing yards, while rushing for 66 yards on the ground, and racking up five total touchdowns in the game.

The Bills churned out 484 yards of offensive against the Patriots and got nearly everyone on their team involved, including backup offensive lineman Tommy Doyle.

With the win, Buffalo now advances to the Divisional Round of the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

If the Chiefs win on Sunday night against the Steelers, the matchup will be the Bills at the Chiefs. If the Steelers win, then the Bengals will travel to Buffalo to face the Bills.
