After almost a month of waiting, spotter Josh Williams has announced he is moving on to Trackhouse Racing to work with Zane Smith. Williams spent years in NASCAR with Team Penske and Ryan Blaney. A championship later, he’s moving on to a new project.

This is a great move, I think. If you are going to leave a team you have been with for a decade, shake things up a bit. Trackhouse Racing and Zane Smith are exciting – it’s a new opportunity and should be invigorating for the veteran NASCAR spotter.

Williams and Smith have worked together for four years in the Truck Series. So it speaks volumes that Williams wants to move with Smith to Trackhouse.

Josh Williams is a champion spotter, and now the Trackhouse rookie gets a great voice in his ear.

“New year, new house!” Williams wrote on Twitter/X. “Couldn’t be more excited to announce my new home with [Trackhouse]! I really admire the culture that [Justin Marks] and Ty Norris have built in just a few short years at TH.

“Watching the growth and atmosphere is something I really wanted to be a part of and continue to drive forward! It’s an easy fit already being with [Zane Smith] the last 4 years in the truck series to help with that transition into full time Cup racing which will be a challenging but rewarding task!”

So, this is a big deal. There has been a ton of spotter movement in the offseason. What can we expect from this duo in the Cup Series?

Josh Williams provides steady hand for Zane Smith

Not only do these two have history in the Truck Series, but Josh Williams has done this before. He worked with Ryan Blaney when he was a young driver and coming into the Cup Series himself. Smith has a steady hand to help guide him this season.

In 2024, Trackhouse Racing has major potential. They can be the hottest team in all of NASCAR if they play their cards right. For Smith, in particular, he should be a Rookie of the Year contender.

Between Smith, Carson Hocevar, and Josh Berry it is going to be a really good battle. And look, I know John Hunter Nemechek isn’t a rookie, he’s had a couple of seasons. However, in my mind he’s in this group too as a newcomer – this Next Gen car is totally different from what JHN drove before.

Trackhouse Racing is the exciting new team in NASCAR. They have been around a few years now, but with Zane Smith, Shane van Gisbergen, the usual duo of Daniel Suárez and Ross Chastain, co-owners Pitbull and Justin Marks, who isn’t afraid to race every now – it’s the place to be right now.
