San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley notched the first pick-six of his NFL career on Sunday versus Baker Mayfield and the Carolina Panthers.

The former Tennessee Volunteers star read Mayfield’s eyes and was in the perfect spot to grab a ball that the quarterback threw too high for his receiver.

Moseley caught the ball and ran it back for a 41-yard touchdown. The score put the 49ers up 17-3 with the clock ticking down to the end of the first half.

Moseley, in his fifth season with the 49ers, had 16 tackles coming into the game on Sunday. Although he had one interception in each of the last three seasons, he hadn’t nabbed one this year until the pick-six versus Carolina.

In March of 2021, Moseley signed a two-year, $10.1 million extension with San Francisco but he’ll be an unrestricted free agent once again after this season.

Panthers missing several defenders on Sunday

The Carolina Panthers entered Week 5 with a 1-3 record following a 10-point loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Hoping to right the ship, they are hosting the San Francisco 49ers (2-2) for a cross-coast matchup at home.

Three Panthers were questionable coming into Sunday and now, several more are officially out. Most notably, safety Xavier Woods is out with a hamstring injury. It’s a major blow to the Panthers defense that lost Jeremy Chinn to IR this week. Also a big loss, linebacker Frankie Luvu is out with a nagging shoulder injury.

The Panthers started Cory Littleton in Luvu’s spot, and Juston Burris and Myles Hartsfield at safety. Three of their four leading tacklers are out today against the 49ers.

The Panthers have a big test against the San Francisco 49ers defense without versatile wideout Laviska Shenault Jr. Shenault is still recovering from a hamstring injury and has just two catches so far this season. Also out is wide receiver Rashard Higgins.

Cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver and tight end Stephen Sullivan are also out with thigh and back injuries, respectively.
