Front Row Motorsports has to replace Zane Smith, a Truck Series champion, in 2024. They picked Layne Riggs to carry that mantle for them. Riggs, the NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series champion is taking a big step up in stock car racing.

Layne Riggs is going to pilot the No. 38 truck for Front Row. This is a big move up for the driver who had taken on Late Model racing in the NASCAR Weekly Series as well as the CARS Tour.

Riggs was given some starts in the last two years for both Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series and a number of teams in the Truck Series. In 2023, Riggs was able to earn a top-5 finish at Indianapolis Raceway Park in a truck, a track he had a top-10 finish at in 2022.

As for his Xfinity venture, he had finished fo P19 (Texas), P10 (Las Vegas) and P11 (Martinsville). Riggs is seen as one of the bright young stars at just 21-years-old. He even has support from Kevin Harvick and KHI. Riggs won a CARS Tour race at Caraway Speedway but was later disqualified.

Safe to say, Riggs is excited about this opportunity.

Dylan Cappello will move from engineer to crew chief for the 38 team. Chris Lawson, crew chief last year for Zane Smith, will be a consultant.

Front Row landed a good one in Layne Riggs

Folks, let’s just talk a minute – how great is it to see another short-track racer get a chance like this? Josh Berry, with support from Dale Jr. has really opened the doors for a lot of racers. Seeing Layne Riggs get this chance – it’s awesome.

When you have the backing of The Closer, you know you’re doing something right. All of that and more went into the decision to sign Riggs to FRM.

“I really appreciate Layne’s dedication to his education while also competing at the highest levels,” commented Bob Jenkins, Owner, FRM. “That comes from great parenting and a sense of dedication from Layne. We’ve already seen a lot of potential in Layne and he’s a perfect fit for our program to develop him into a national series NASCAR winner.”

The season starts at Daytona – the Fresh From Florida 250 has been won two years in a row by Front Row. Can Layne Riggs help make it three? I’m not sure he wins in his first start with the team, but he’s in championship-level equipment and should win a race or two this season.

Oh, and Riggs isn’t just a driver. He’s about to graduate from UNC Charlotte with his Mechanical Engineering degree – the kid is going places.
