Jets WR Garrett Wilson made himself known to the NFL with how he played as a rookie last season. Even so, he realizes that it was just the first step in what he hopes is a much bigger journey as his career continues.

Wilson recently spoke with Steve Serby at The New York Post about the lofty expectations upon him as he enters his second pro season. In his opinion, he feels he hasn’t accomplished anything yet, even though he was last year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and says he needs to continue to make strides to reach where he wants to be in the future.

“I ain’t done nothing yet,” Wilson said. “I gotta prove myself and just make sure I’m taking big steps, man.”

Those goals have only been amplified by the offseason comparisons between himself and Davante Adams, the three-time All-Pro and former teammate of Aaron Rodgers. Still, while those notions flatter him, his point still stands that his work on the field is what’s going to justify opinions like those.

“That’s awesome, man. That’s awesome (to be compared to Adams). But I gotta go out and prove it every day, every time I take the field that I’m even worthy of being in the same sentence as a player like that,” said Wilson. “That’s what I plan to do.”

Wilson was by far the top target in New York’s receiving corps in their last campaign. He was the team’s leader in catches with 83, which was 51 more than the next wide receiver on offense. He also doubled the next closest player in receiving yardage with 1,103 yards while also catching four touchdowns.

Wilson might be even better this year with Rodgers coming in to get him the football. Before he hears any more praise, though, he wants to go out and show what he has in order to earn it that way.

Rodgers says Wilson has ‘potential to be really special’

Aaron Rodgers didn’t hold back when talking about Garrett Wilson.

The second-year man out of Ohio State now has a future Hall of Famer tossing him the football this season. He should likely end up Rodgers’ favorite target this year too.

“I think pretty quick,” Rodgers said during the Jets’ preseason opener regarding how fast Wilson can be great. “I think (the receiving group is a bunch of) smart guys. They’re talented guys. And that’s what we did a lot in the offseason, during the OTA time. Just a lot of conversation around what we’re trying to do. What we’re trying to accomplish, what to be ready for.

“But, Garrett? He’s a special talent. And, obviously, you know, Joe has done a great job of drafting the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year last year,” said Rodgers. “Garrett is just one amazing kid.”
