Giants quarterback Daniel Jones continues to miss time because of a neck injury. But the team believes he’ll be back in time to play the Cowboys in two weeks.

That’s according to ESPN. In a story posted Saturday, unidentified sources indicated that playing against the Cowboys is a “realistic goal” so long as the quarterback suffers no setbacks with his neck.

Jones has missed the past two Giants games after injuring his neck against the Dolphins. He strained his neck after a blindside hit. Tyrod Taylor, whom New York signed in the off season, has started the past two games. He led a near road upset of Buffalo. Then the Giants beat the Commanders at home.

Sunday’s game will feature a battle for NYC in the Meadowlands as the Giants meet the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

The Daniel Jones situation has evolved in the last two weeks. There was hope he could return in time for the Commanders, with the team listing him as questionable on the final injury report before the game. But he didn’t play. Then this past week, coach Brian Daboll ruled Jones out for the Jets. The quarterback was limited in all three practices. Doctors have yet to clear him for contact. He has done throwing drills and has taken some snaps on the scout team. But it’s unclear whether he still is able to do that much in practice.

“I don’t have a crystal ball with injuries,” Daboll said in a media availability, Friday, “But he is getting better. And we’ll see where he is next week.”

The Cowboys play host to the Giants, Nov. 12, at AT&T Stadium. The two teams opened the regular season, Sept 10, on Sunday Night Football. Even with Jones as the starter, the game wasn’t competitive. The Cowboys won 40-0, with the defense sacking Jones seven times and intercepting him twice.

This is Jones’ second neck injury in three seasons. In 2021, he missed the final six games of the season with the injury.

It might not be a bad thing if Taylor starts against the Cowboys. After all, he’s played some pretty clean football in filling in for Jones. He’s yet to suffer a turnover.

“I feel comfortable in our offense,” Taylor told reporters this week. “I feel comfortable with the playmakers that we have outside. It’s up to me, obviously, to get the ball to those guys, so just trying to spread it around as much as possible, and a lot of those guys create plays.”
