The New York Giants are going through a rough season this year. And on Sunday, things got even worse. Not only did the Giants get blown out by the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-6, but they also had one of their stars go down with a serious injury. New York quarterback Daniel Jones is feared to have suffered a significant knee injury, potentially a torn ACL based on the initial tests, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Jones has been repeatedly banged up all season long behind one of the worst offensive lines in league history. He’s suffered a number of different injuries and while it was inevitable for him to get seriously injured, it doesn’t make it any easier to stomach for Giants fans.

Jones will have an MRI to get the full picture on the knee injury. Once he exited the game on Sunday, former Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito took his place, throwing a touchdown and two interceptions in the blowout loss.

Giants’ backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is currently on injured reserve with a rib injury.

The Giants offensive line has already allowed 49 total sacks in nine games, according to StatMuse. That ranks them dead last in the National Football League. Clearly, it’ll be an issue they’ll need to address this offseason, or else Jones might never get healthy. The current NFL record for the most sacks allowed by a franchise in a single season is 104. That dubious distinction belongs the 1986 Philadelphia Eagles.

Before the potentially season ending injury, Jones had struggled mightily this season, completing 67.5% of his passes for 909 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns with six interceptions. As a runner, Jones had rushed for 206 yards and one touchdown on 40 carries.

Not surprisingly, the Giants have struggled this year. They’ve been one of the worst teams in the NFL and they currently sit at 2-7 overall.

Daniel Jones hasn’t had a very good career in the National Football League. But, it’s also fair to say that the Giants’ administration didn’t put him in the greatest of situations over the years, too. He did have the best season of his NFL career last year under head coach Brian Daboll.

In 2022, Jones completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 3,205 yards, while tossing in 15 touchdowns with five interceptions. As a runner, he had 120 carries for 708 yards, while scoring seven touchdowns on the ground.

He helped lead the Giants to a NFC Wild Card win over the Minnesota Vikings, 31-24. The Giants then lost in the NFC Divisional Round to the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-7.

This offseason, the Giants rewarded Daniel Jones with a four-year, $160 million contract, $82 million of which is fully guaranteed.
