There was a scary development with New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor on Sunday, who left the Jets game with a rib injury and had to be taken to a local hospital to be further evaluated.

But Monday afternoon brought positive news on that front as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Giants QB and former Virginia Tech star was released from the hospital. However, he has not been fully cleared to return to the field and is now considered week-to-week with the injury.

Here was that report, which Schefter tweeted out:

“Giants’ QB Tyrod Taylor was discharged from the hospital today after being taken there Sunday for precautionary reasons due to a rib injury, per source. For now, Taylor is considered week to week.”

Former Syracuse and Illinois quarterback Tommy DeVito replaced Taylor, who appeared to be in a lot of pain in the rib area when he went to the sideline. A little bit later in the game, the Giants’ team Twitter account reported that Taylor had left the game and the stadium altogether. Here was that tweet:

“QB Tyrod Taylor has been ruled out with a ribs injury. He has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”

Fans may remember that Taylor has suffered an upper-body injury in the past, back in the 2020-21 season, when a team doctor mistakingly punctured his lung while trying to administer an injection, which led to Taylor being taken to the hospital, as well. It does not appear the two upper-body injuries are related in any way, but it’s worth monitoring since Taylor ultimately went to the hospital out of caution over the rib issue.

Of course, Taylor started the game against the Jets because Giants starter Daniel Jones continues to miss time because of a neck injury. But the team believes he’ll be back in time to play the Cowboys in two weeks.

That’s according to ESPN. In a story posted Saturday, unidentified sources indicated that playing against the Cowboys is a “realistic goal” so long as the quarterback suffers no setbacks with his neck.

Jones has missed the past two Giants games after injuring his neck against the Dolphins. He strained his neck after a blindside hit. Taylor, who New York signed in the off-season, has started the past three games. He led a near-upset of Buffalo on the road. Then the following game, the Giants beat the Commanders at home before the New York Bowl vs. the Jets.
