The Green Bay Packers made the announcement on Saturday afternoon via their Twitter page that they’ve re-signed linebacker Eric Wilson, a key contributor on their special teams’ unit. Last season, he made an impact on special teams, leading that unit with 13 tackles last year, despite joining the team on October 4th.

Wilson has spent six years in the National Football League thus far, joining the Minnesota Vikings in 2017 after playing his college football with the Cincinnati Bearcats. From 2017-2020, he played with the Vikings and in 2021 he played with the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans. Then, in October of 2022, he joined the Green Bay Packers.

When he was picked up following the 2017 NFL Draft, Wilson was acquired by the Vikings as undrafted free agent. During his NFL career thus far (78 regular season games), the former Bearcat has racked up 254 total tackles, eight sacks, four interceptions, nine passes defended, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. His best season thus far in the NFL came with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2020 campaign, when he racked up 122 total tackles and three sacks.

During his 2015 season with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Wilson racked up 103 tackles while playing in 12 games. He earned second team All-American Athletic Conference honors. One of his best games of the season came against the Miami Redhawks when he racked up 18 tackles, earning AAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Wilson also tallied 14 tackles that season against the Miami Hurricanes.

During the 2014 season with the Bearcats, he racked up 28 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. Wilson set his season-high in tackles against the Ohio State Buckeyes, when he racked up five against them.

Coming out of high school, he originally committed to the Northwestern Wildcats, redshirting his true freshman season there in 2012, before transferring to Cincinnati in 2013. He played his high school football for Lee M. Thurston High School (Redford, Michigan). As a senior, he racked up 64 tackles and four sacks his senior year.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Wilson was rated the No. 875 overall player in America coming out of high school in the 2012 cycle. He was also rated the No. 107 linebacker prospect in the country that year and a three-star prospect. A dynamic athlete, Wilson also lettered four years in track in high school, played football, and one year in basketball.
