The Green Bay Packers are still piecing together their roster in preparation for the start of the 2022 season. And on Monday, the Packers added some help at the tight end position picking up former Carolina Panther Nate Becker.

According to the NFL transfer wire, Green Bay claimed Becker off of waivers after Carolina released him following just a three-day stint on their roster.

The former Miami of Ohio product started off his pro career as a member of the Detroit Lions after going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. However, his time in Detroit was short-lived, as the team cut him two days after signing him. Becker would spend his 2019 and 2020 seasons as a member of the Buffalo Bills, primarily as a part of their practice squad. Before the start of the 2021 season, Buffalo parted ways with their young tight end. Becker has yet to catch a pass in an NFL regular season game.

Becker had 19 receptions for 209 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games over three seasons at Miami of Ohio.

The Packers completed a series of moves on Monday, along with the addition of their new tight end. Green Bay is working to work their roster down to the 80-man requirement by the Aug. 23 deadline.

Packers announces release of center Cole Schneider and cornerback Donte Vaughn

With week one of the NFL preseason in the book, the Green Bay Packers are preparing for their week two matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Friday. And as the Packers prepare for their evening showdown later in the week, they have announced some more roster moves on Monday.

According to general manager Brian Gutekunst, Green Bay has released center Cole Schneider and cornerback Donte Vaughn.

The Packers picked up Schneider shortly after the 2022 NFL Draft as an undrafted rookie signing out of UCF. The former Knight checked off some of the boxes Green Bay looks for in an offensive lineman; in that, he can play multiple spots on the line. Unfortunately, despite getting some praise from head coach Matt LaFleur earlier in the offseason, Schneider’s run with the Packers is over for now.

Vaughn was picked up by the Packers this offseason after spending the start of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. Vaughn is also a former undrafted rookie signee from the 2020 NFL Draft.

These kinds of roster moves are pretty standard as teams begin to trim down towards the 53-man roster number requirement to start the regular season. For now, these two individuals are not a part of Green Bay’s plans for the future. However, the opportunity does present itself; we could see either one or both a part of the Packers practice squad to start the regular season.
