The Green Bay Packers lost another member of their secondary in their 25-22 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. In light of this new injury, the Packers have brought in veteran corner Quinton Dunbar.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said on Monday that the team was still evaluating corner Kevin King’s injury.

“He’s doing alright. We’re still evaluating that. I’ll have more information for you on Wednesday,” said Lafleur.

The former Washington product exited Sunday’s contest in the second half after making a tackle on Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd. King had made his way back onto the field after being out the past two weeks in concussion protocol. On Sunday, he allowed just three catches for 17 yards when he was the primary defender.

However, with King’s status for this Sunday’s matchup on the road against the Chicago Bears uncertain, the Packers have elected to bring in Dunbar just in case. An undrafted free agent in the 2015 NFL draft, he started his career with the Washington Football Team. He spent four years in Washington before he was traded for the Seattle Seahawks in last year’s offseason. But his time with the Seahawks was short-lived. He suffered a knee injury midway through November and did not play the remainder of the season. Over his five years in the NFL, he’s played in 64 games, recorded 40 past deflections, and 10 interceptions.

As of right now, Dunbar is signed to the Green Bay practice squad and not the main 53 man roster. As a member of the practice squad, he can be elevated to the main roster twice. After that, the Packers would have to choose between signing him for the remainder of the season or releasing him.

The Packers other options

Although the Packers might be without their two starting corners; they still have ample help at the position currently on their roster. Their first-round pick in this year’s draft, Eric Stokes, filled in at starting corner in King’s absence for two games, and against Cincinnati, he started in place of the Packers’ other injured corner Jaire Alexander. Aside from him, the Packers still have Chandon Sullivan, Isaac Yiadom, Shemar Jean-Charles, and Rasul Douglas.

With Alexander being placed on injured reserve last week and King’s injury this week the Packers are thinner than they would like to be at corner. But adding Dunbar, for the time being, gives them a quality veteran player who can help them while their two starters are on the mend.
