The injury bug hit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, with a number of notable players leaving their game against the Detroit Lions with ailments. Star pass rusher Rashan Gary was among those Packers players to leave with injury, and his might have been the worst of the day.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Gary has suffered a torn ACL.

“Rashan Gary tears his ACL, source confirms, and he’ll have an MRI to determine if there is additional damage,” Rapoport tweeted. “More bad luck for the #Packers.”

The loss of Gary is a big one, as he has 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six sacks, and 12 quarterback hits on the season. He has also added one pass defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Gary has been a consistent contributor for the Packers since he was drafted 12th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Michigan. Now, the struggling Packers will have to find a way to offset the loss of one of their best players on either side of the ball.

Gary is coming off of the best season of his NFL career, where he put up 47 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and 28 quarterback hits along with two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 16 regular season games. Since entering the league in 2019, he has 135 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 22.5 sacks and 54 quarterback hits.

The injury is a tough pill to swallow for the Packers, especially as their freefall continues. After losing in Week 1 against the Vikings, Green Bay rattled off three straight wins to reach 3-1. But the Packers have lost five straight games since then, currently sitting at 3-6, which is still tied for second in the NFC North.

It doesn’t get easier for the Packers, with matchups against the Cowboys, Titans, Eagles, Bears, Rams, Dolphins, Vikings and Lions looming over the final half of the regular season.
