The National Football League has made their ruling regarding the incident involving Philadelphia Eagles’ Head of Security Dom DiSandro from last weekend.

Controversy began when 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw the Eagles’ Head of Security got into it on the sidelines during last weekend’s victory for San Francisco in Philadelphia.

Both Greenlaw and DiSandro were ejected from the game with 9:27 remaining in the third quarter, when the former tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith near Philadelphia’s sideline after a 13-yard completion. Greenlaw slammed Smith to the ground and was flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Players from both teams began jawing at each other before DiSandro stepped in and put his hands on the former Arkansas standout. Greenlaw extended his hand and appeared to make contact with DiSandro’s face.

Everybody had an opinion on the matter, but the fact of the matter was that someone uninvolved in the game had a major impact, even if the 49ers were able to hold on for a monstrous win.

Now, the NFL has stepped in, and they’re reportedly barring DiSandro from the Eagles’ sideline, for at least this weekend’s game.

“Eagles’ Head of Security Dom DiSandro is being barred from being on Philadelphia’s sideline for Sunday night’s game vs. the Cowboys for his part in last Sunday’s sideline fracas with 49ers’ LB Dre Greenlaw,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday. “DiSandro is allowed to go to Dallas with the Eagles, and do all his regular duties – just not be on the team’s sideline during the game.

“DiSandro and other Eagles’ officials met Friday morning at the league office in New York with commissioner Roger Goodell. The league still is reviewing additional material to see if further discipline is warranted.”

Alas, one person who will be enthusiastic with the punishment is 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. He gave his take of the ejections after the game, and he was far from pleased with the officials’ decision.

“I didn’t get to see it all from where I’m at,” Shanahan said. “But when I started hearing people explain it to me and stuff… I just can’t believe someone not involved in a football game can taunt our players like that and put their hands in our guy’s face and from what I was told, Dre did it back to him and [I] was told that he kind of mashed him in the face a little bit so he got ejected. But it was a very frustrating play.”

Is this the end of Dom DiSandro’s punishment? That remains to be seen, but the NFL is at least taking some action ahead of this weekend’s NFC East clash.
