New England Patriots defensive back Jack Jones is in a world of trouble after he was arrested Friday at Boston’s Logan Airport on weapons charges after two handguns were found in his luggage.

The 2022 fourth-round draft pick out of Arizona State now has multiple charges against him: Possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of the airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network explained how this is “not an NFL issue,” adding he doesn’t know how Jones “gets out of this.”

“I do not know that he gets out of this. It’s not good,” Rapoport said. “And you know, he’s an NFL player and he is a really good player. You know, really versatile player, good young talent on what should be a really, really good Patriots defense. This is not an NFL issue. You know, there is — and I’m not 100% clear either, but, you know, I had someone who I believe should know say that there is a mandatory sentence involved with this. … I believe 18 months.

“These are all charges, obviously, and we should say that. We do not know, you know, what he did, who did what. I mean there’s been plenty of times we’ve seen the report and then it comes out later and it’s different. … It’s possible timing-wise this is pushed a little bit. So like, you know, the legal system plays out forever. So, it is possible he could play this year but this is bad and this is not a football issue.”

Jack Jones potentially facing long stay in jail

Jones posted his $50,000 bail. The Patriots released a short statement indicating they were aware of the situation.

“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today,” a Patriots spokesperson said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”

In his first season in New England, Jones recorded 30 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and six passes defended. He returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown. The Patriots suspended Jones in December of last year due to a violation of team rules. Specifics were never released, but it ended the former Arizona State star’s rookie season after 13 games.
