Dallas Cowboys third-round draft pick Jalen Tolbert is set to make his debut for the team against the New York Giants on Monday night. The Cowboys selected Tolbert with the 88th overall pick in the third round last draft, hoping the Sun Belt Conference star will add some depth and athleticism to their receiving corps.

Jalen Tolbert to make NFL debut versus Giants

“Cowboys rookie wide receiver Jalen Tolbert is not working with the early group in pregame like he has the last two weeks. Looks like the third-round pick will be making his Cowboys debut,” explained The Athletic‘s Jon Machota before the game.

Tolbert’s debut comes at an exciting time for Dallas as they continue to miss Michael Gallup in their active roster. Gallup was ruled inactive ahead of their Monday night game as he continues to recover from an ACL tear, allowing for Tolbert’s big opportunity this week. Additionally, tight end Dalton Schultz was reported to be a game-time decision with a knee injury he sustained previously — placing a premium on pass-catching depth for Dallas this week.

Tolbert contributed his first NFL catch to the Cowboys win on Monday night, ending his day with just the one reception for four yards. Dallas took down the Giants in the NFC East rivalry game to hand the Giants their first loss of the season and move up to 2-1 on the season.

Next week, Dallas takes on another NFC East opponent in the Washington Commanders. Although Tolbert’s opportunities have been limited so far this season, his ability to provide depth to the Dallas receiving corps will be vital as the offense continues to move parts around due to injury. Against Washington, it’s possible that Gallup could make his season debut as well, with Tolbert finding his spot on the bubble for the immediate future.
