Jarvis Landry has made the NFL.com’s top 100 players list coming into the 2021 season. The five-time pro bowler has made this list in five straight years. This year’s appearance is his second-lowest ranking slotted at 94.

Landry in 2020

The former LSU star and Louisiana native did not have a particularly stellar season last year. He started in 14 games and caught 72 passes for 840 yards. Landry also recorded a career-low three touchdown catches for the season. However, he was still the Browns leading receiver last year. His low stat line had more to do with the Brown’s heavy focus on the run game led by the duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

Injury struggles

Landry has earned himself the tag of being an NFL Iron-man in his career. the five-foot-11 receiver has only missed one game in his entire NFL career. And that game was last year due to COVID contact tracing. However, it would have been understandable if he missed a game or two. Landry was recovering from offseason hip surgery and struggled early in the season. He also broke a few ribs after taking a shot from Colt’s linebacker Zaire Franklin in the first quarter. In the offseason, he was asked about what made 2020 challenging for him and what part his surgery played in that.

“I think that also played a part into last year, coming from surgery,’’ he said. “I don’t know if you guys know, but I just rehabbed that whole time, so I did no strength and development. I did no speed training. I just played the season off of rehab. So now I’ve had an opportunity to do that this year and pay more attention and be more detailed with that and that’s helped me greatly.’’

 2021 outlook

Last year the Browns had the highest-ranked offensive line efficiency according to Pro Football Focus. This year looks to be no different in that category. However, with Landry starting this season 100%, and the return of Odell Beckham Jr from his season-ending ACL injury the Browns offense looks to be one of the most potent ones in the NFL.

Landry is no doubt one tough dude. Not many players would muscle through broken ribs to stay on the field. With him fully recovered from his injury woes and the continued growth of young quarterback Baker Mayfield look for Landry to have yet another solid season for the Browns in 2021.
