Coming off his unexpected win over the Bengals in Week 2, Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush is getting a boost heading into Monday night’s game vs. their intra-divisional rival, the New York Giants. After missing the first two games of the season, extremely veteran left tackle Jason Peters will suit up for Dallas as they take on NYG.

The report comes from NFL insider Jordan Schultz. He tweeted out two separate updates on Peters Monday morning. The first, noting that the veteran O-lineman was active.

“Breaking: #Cowboys OT Jason Peters will be active tonight, per source,” his report read in a tweet. He then added in another one regarding his position: “One more note: #Cowboys OL Jason Peters will play guard on MNF — slides inside against the #Giants on a snap count.”

So perhaps a limited Peters tonight. But at least he’ll be out there. His first snap tonight will mark his 18th season playing in the NFL. Also his first ever snap at guard, though. So it’s definitely a change for the 40-year-old. He may not be in his prime any longer, but the journeyman tackle can still keep defenders in front of him. We’ll see if that remains true as he kicks inside to guard.

It will also be Peters’ first game for the Cowboys. Despite his nearly two-decade long career, Peters actually hasn’t played for very many teams. He spent his first five years with the Buffalo Bills, then played 11 seasons in Philadelphia before stopping for a one-year stint in Chicago last season. Now, on to Dallas, where he could be in the final year of his career.

It’ll be Cowboys vs. Giants Monday night on ESPN in an NFC East showdown — which haven’t been known to be very entertaining matchups over the last few years. With Rush and Daniel Jones as your starters, look out for another game like Sunday night’s 49ers-Broncos punt-fest.
