Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle left practice, Wednesday, with what appeared to be an injury to his mid-section.

Reports from the scene said that Waddle, a former Alabama star, stayed down for several moments. He got back up and left practice under his own power. He was clutching his side.

Jaylen Waddle led NFL in yards per catch in 2022

Miami selected Jaylen Waddle with the sixth pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Last season, Waddle led the NFL in yards per reception, averaging 18.1 yards per catch. He caught 75 passes for 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns. He and Tyreek Hill give the Dolphins one of the most formidable passing offenses in the NFL so long as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa stays healthy.

The Dolphins and Falcons are conducting joint workouts today in Miami. And it’s getting testy. Hill got into a fight with a Falcon, with assistant coach Wes Welker pulling him away. Joe Schad, the Dolphins beat writer for the Palm Beach Post, was on the scene. He said that the skirmish led to “players from both team running in from the bullpens.”

Moments later, Hill celebrated a touchdown pass by doing a back flip in front of the Falcons bench.

Dolphins, Falcons play each other, Friday

The two teams open their exhibition season this Friday against each other. And it’s unclear if Jaylen Waddle would be available. The Dolphins haven’t updated his injury.

Meanwhile, Waddle admitted on Tuesday that he and Hill are involved in a playful competition. They’ve divided the receivers into two teams. Then the two battle each other for supremacy in training camp. But neither Hill nor Waddle would reveal who is on which team.

“You ask him that,” Waddle told reporters. “I can’t tell you who’s on my team, just know we’ve got some steppas on there. … Our team’s stacked. Loaded. I’m not going to lie, like, GM crazy.”
