On Tuesday, the district attorney in Arapahoe County in Colorado dismissed all charges in a domestic violence case against Denver Broncos receiver Jerry Jeudy. That prompted Harvey Steinberg, the lawyer for Jeudy, to speak out about the case why he believes his client was not criminally charged.

“At about 8:30 this morning Denver time, the district attorney filed a motion to dismiss all counts and vacate a hearing,” Steinberg said according to Pro Football Network. “Nothing rose to the level of a crime. …I like Jerry, and he is a good person. This is a minor bump in the road of what I think will be a sterling career.”

Jerry Jeudy was arrested on charges of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer on May 12 after the mother of his child called in a complaint against him. The case again him involved tampering with property, but not physical violence against the woman. He allegedly withheld a baby’s car seat, medical records for the child, and the woman’s wallet.

“There was no physical contact between Mr. Jeudy and the female party,” Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said during a press conference. “It solely involved property.”

Jeudy was reportedly cooperative with the arresting officers, per Brown.

According to Colorado case law, criminal tampering occurs when someone “tampers with property of another with intent to cause injury, inconvenience, or annoyance to that person.” It is considered a Class 2 misdemeanor and can result in a sentence of up to 120 days or $750 in fines.

The Broncos selected Jeudy 15th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama. As a rookie in 2020, Jeudy played in all 16 games for the Broncos, bringing in 52 receptions for 856 yards and three touchdowns. This past season, he only played in ten games due to injuries but still had 38 receptions for 467 yards.

Jeudy is expected to have a breakout season this year with Russell Wilson under center for the Denver Broncos. While his production hasn’t been what many people expected thus far in the National Football League, his surgical and precise route running paired up with nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson figures to be a lethal combination for opposing defenses to stop.
