Jerry Jones wanted a quarterback controversy for the Dallas Cowboys, and Cooper Rush is playing at a high level in place of Dak Prescott. The owner and general manager sure likes what he’s seeing, too.

Rush led the Cowboys to their second straight victory Monday night — a 23-16 win over the rival New York Giants — thanks to 215 passing yards and a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. Dallas has now won back-to-back games since Prescott left Week 1 with an injury, and he’s starting to work his way back from thumb surgery.

During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones had some high praise for Rush.

“He’s certainly playing as well as anyone could have expected,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “He understands this offense. He’s got the makeup for a top quarterback. We’re very fortunate.”

Cooper Rush asked about QB controversy with Dak Prescott

The notion of a “quarterback controversy” in Dallas got Cowboys fans talking after Jerry Jones’ comments. But as Cooper Rush won his second straight start on Monday night, the noise appears to be getting louder as Dak Prescott works his way back.

Rush had quite an answer about the situation after Dallas’ win over the New York Giants.

“Well, I keep winning,” Rush told ESPN’s Lisa Salters. “As long as I’m in there, let’s just keep winning, playing smart, trusting each other, both sides of the ball and we’ll be alright.”

Since Prescott’s Week 1 injury, Rush has started the Cowboys’ last two games — victories over the Cincinnati Bengals and the Giants, both in primetime. He has thrown for 450 yards and two touchdowns in both starts, and he’ll more than likely have a chance to build on those numbers Sunday when Dallas takes on the Washington Commanders.
