The Dallas Cowboys‘ showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon is not only a matchup to determine supremacy over the NFC East but also provides yet another opportunity to settle the top quarterback debate. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts only played in one of two games against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys last season due to injury but the Dallas QB has come out on top in his last three starts against Philadelphia.

Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked to compare Prescott and Hurts on Friday ahead of the team’s travel to Philly.

“They both have always had as part of their makeup, having an instinct about when to take it down and run it, there’s a similarity there,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “Hurts is strong, strongest running quarterback I think I’ve seen, that’s a big deal.

“Dak knows how to pick his spots and hurt them… I know when we were looking at Hurts in the draft, he does really do some good things. Their throwing speaks for itself. Dak has an inordinately strong arm.”

Prescott has thrown for 1,637 yards with 10 touchdowns on a career-best 71% passing so far this season, leading the Cowboys to a 5-2 record. Hurts, meanwhile, has 2,140 passing yards, 280 rushing yards, a 68% completion percentage with 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions – which is three more than his Cowboys rival.

Jones: ‘Proud to have our boy’

Although Hurts has had slightly more success in the postseason than Prescott in his eight-year career so far, but Jones wouldn’t trade the QBs if given the chance.

“When you look at Hurts… You’ve got to say that leadership is written all over him, as well,” Jones added, reflecting on his college journey and early success with Philadelphia. “I’m reluctant to compare them because that not only gets you in trouble but it’s not fair to either one of them. I’m proud, proud, proud to have our boy. It’s nothing against Hurts, it’s just how lucky we are. I love what he has evolved into this season.”

Eagles DC Sean Desai evaluates Prescott’s play

Prescott was sharp in the Week 16 meeting last season, leading Dallas to a 40-34 victory. Ahead of the game this Sunday, Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai was asked to evaluate the opposing QB’s play through seven games this season.

“Yeah, kind of like what he’s been in the bulk of his career in terms of he’s operating in a highly efficient way right now, getting the ball out fast and he’s decisive with where he wants to go with the ball and he’s accurate,” Desai said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He’s throwing the ball on point to where the offensive structure is asking him to throw the ball, so he’s doing a good job.

“Then, the one thing you can’t ever sleep on him, we learned this a long time ago and you guys have seen it way more than me, his legs. He can still create plays and make plays from a scramble position as a thrower and a runner, so he’s playing at a high level.”

Dallas kicks off against Philadelphia at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday from Lincoln Financial Field.
