Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shared some glowing comments about former Patriots coach Bill Belichick, saying that he could see the two of them working together, even though he’s still fully devoted to sitting head coach Mike McCarthy.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Jori Epstein writes that Belichick’s name was brought up and Jones was very complimentary and pointed out that he could very well see the two of them in partnership.

“I know him personally and I like him. There’s no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None,” commented Jones. He was then asked if he thought the longtime New England coach would land a gig in this cycle.

“I don’t know,” Jones answered. “I don’t know. I wouldn’t speculate.”

But what about for the Cowboys position should it come open down the line? Since Jones had just mentioned how he would work well with Belichick.

“I don’t want to get into — for reasons of talking about anybody that I may have talked to that’s been bantered around about coaching. But I didn’t talk to anybody,” he said. “I haven’t talked to anybody that is a head-coaching candidate other than my own.”

While Jones admires Belichick, he’s not of the belief that his pedigree would automatically lead to better success in the postseason with Dallas.

“To say that any one person automatically assures you a Super Bowl is ridiculous,” he said. “That’s too high (of an) expectation for him. But is he maybe the greatest pro football coach of all time? Could very well be.”

Before leaving the topic behind, Jones reiterated one more time that he and Bill Belichick are close and could certainly work together if that opportunity presented itself someday.

“He is a friend and I like him and I want to make real clear: I wouldn’t have any problem working with him.”

However, for now, Jerry Jones is still all-in on Mike McCarthy and seeing if he can push the Cowboys through to that next step in the postseason.

“I thought we made a pretty good move four years ago when we hired Mike McCarthy, and he’s had some in-season success,” said Jones in a separate interview. “Now, he’s come up short three times and in advancing us in the playoffs. But I like the fact that he’s hanging around the rim. And I like what the team has done to hang around the rim.”

Next season, though, Jones will be hoping for more of a slam dunk, or else, perhaps those Belichick whispers get even louder if he is still on the job hunt a year from now.
