Legendary San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice is getting excited for the Super Bowl where he’ll be rooting for his former team. On the other side, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, however, is going to be Taylor Swift and all of the attention and exposure that comes with her.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Tom Pelissero asked Jerry Rice if there was any pop culture phenomenon comparable to Taylor Swift when he was a player.

“No,” Jerry Rice admitted. “I’m a Swiftie…I’m just joking. I’m joking about that but, you know, just watching her, she’s really into the game of football and everybody loves her. So, the audience has gotten so much bigger. She’s done so much for the NFL.”

Ahead of a game-winning drive in the Super Bowl, quarterback Joe Montana famously pointed out actor John Candy in the stands. That was a team Jerry Rice was on and a huddle he would’ve been in. Still, Candy apparently didn’t have the star power to match what’s going on in the NFL with Swift.

Taylor Swift began attending Kansas City games this season as her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce became more public. With that came more than a little media attention as well as fans of hers coming to football as a sport for the first time.

“And Travis, he’s balling right now and we’ve got to take him out of the game,” Rice concluded.

Jerry Rice encourages San Francisco 49ers to double Travis Kelce

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Jerry Rice knows that Travis Kelce is liable of controlling the game and giving his 49ers a very hard time. So, he thinks the best solution is to double-team Kelce.

“We got to get to Patrick Mahomes, and man, that’s a hard task. And Travis Kelce, I would double him 100%. Also, Taylor Swift, I would double her 100%, too. We don’t want Travis to get going. Every time Travis gets going, the camera goes up to the box with Taylor Swift. We got to change that. If we can do that, I feel like we have a legitimate chance,” Rice said.

“It’s going to be up to our defensive line and also the secondary to put pressure on Patrick Mahomes. Get some turnovers. And then we have to be able to get off to a fast start. That last ball game, 24-7 at halftime. We don’t want to be in that position with the Kansas City Chiefs. Especially with a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes.”
