Thursday Night Football has not been eventful thus far, with the Washington Commanders leading the Chicago Bears 3-0 just before halftime. A defensive battle could be on our hands at Soldier Field and if you’re Jonathan Allen, that’s perfectly okay with you. Especially when you snag your first career interception.

When coming off the field from celebrating, Allen decided to throw the ball into the stands. He was not looking for a Commanders fan in Chicago or even a kid. Instead, he made sure to give the interception ball to his wife.

The official Washington Commanders Twitter account captured the sequence in a video. Once Allen’s wife gets the ball, you can see the excitement on her face. A special moment between the two.

More on Jonathan Allen

Allen is in his sixth season in the NFL, spending all of them with Washington. He’s been a staple of what’s been a consistently solid defensive line but somehow, has never managed an interception until Thursday night. In fact, it’s the first turnover he’s forced in his career. There have been two fumble recoveries but never a forced fumble.

The pick came off of Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who has been struggling through the game himself. Mostly everybody on offense, for both teams, has been struggling during Thursday Night Football.

In the five previous games, Allen has recorded 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Washington as a whole has struggled, getting off to a 1-4 record. If Allen is going to help add one to the win column against Chicago, a few more impressive plays will most likely be required down the stretch.

Otherwise, it will be a tough climb up the NFC East rankings just six games in.
