Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster has left his team’s game with what appears to be a head injury. Smith-Schuster was taken to the locker room by team medical professionals and needed assistance in getting there. Smith-Schuster is officially in concussion protocol, per the team’s Twitter page.

On third down late in the second quarter, Smith-Schuster crossed over the middle of the field, looking to get open for a Kansas City first down. As Smith-Schuster attempted to reel in the pass from Patrick Mahomes, he was hit by safety Andre Cisco. Smith-Schuster remained on the ground until he was examined by team doctors.

You can see the hit on Smith-Schuster below.

Smith-Schuster is in the first year of his time with the Chiefs. Entering this game, Smith-Schuster had 582 yards and two touchdowns on 44 catches, making him the Chiefs’ second-leading receiver. He trails only tight end Travis Kelce, who is the Chiefs’ leading receiver with 659 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Smith-Schuster recently spoke about the biggest change coming from his original team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“(The) biggest difference? So Coach (Mike) Tomlin is a defensive coach, head coach, great coach of defensive schemes, all that,” Smith-Schuster said, according to USA Today. “Andy Reid (is an) offensive coach, big offensive scheme guy, you know. And I’ll say like that’s like the biggest difference, that they both master each side of the ball.”

The Chiefs led the Jaguars 20-7 at the half. Kansas City scored three times to open up the game but a late drive by Jacksonville allowed it to get on the board in the final minute of the game.
