The Houston Texans and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn have agreed to terms on a contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Wednesday.

The deal is worth $15.9 million over three years, making Fairbairn the fourth highest-paid kicker in the NFL. Fairbairn was set to become a free agent when the league year begins on March 13.

Fairbairn, 30, has spent the entirety of his seven-year career in Houston, becoming one of the more reliable kickers in the league. He has converted 87% of his field goals, which is the eighth-best percentage in NFL history. Fairbairn’s 94.9% field goal conversation rate since 2020 ranks first among kickers who’ve played in at least 25 games.

Over the last two seasons, he has missed just three field goals and one extra point. Fairbairn converted 27-of-28 field goal attempts in 12 games this past season, with a long of 54 yards. He missed Weeks 10-14 with a quad injury.

The Hawaii native and former UCLA star won the Lou Groza Award as the top kicker in college football in 2015. He was named a consensus All-American that season.

Texans retain Ka’imi Fairbairn, veteran tight end

Houston is making quick work in keeping the band together ahead of free agency opening up next week. The Texans signed tight end Dalton Schultz to a three-year, $36 million extension Tuesday, keeping him off the free agency market.

The former Stanford standout spent the 2023 season with the Texans after five years with the Dallas Cowboys. He suited up in 15 games this past year, finishing with 59 receptions for 635 yards and five touchdowns.

Over the course of his career, Schultz had steadily become more productive. In six years, he has totaled 270 catches for 2,757 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Cowboys selected Schultz in the fourth-round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Schultz played three seasons at Stanford. He finished his collegiate career with 55 catches for 555 yards and five scores.
