Earlier this week, Jets coach Robert Saleh promised that Quinnen Williams contract would get done by the start of training camp. But Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones surely asked, what about me?

The defensive tackle is getting antsy. Otherwise, why would he post a video montage of his most ferocious sacks on his Instagram feed? He captioned the video: “Clock’s ticking” and tagged Chiefs Kingdom. Sure, most folks thinks of offense when someone brings up Kansas City. You’ve got all those amazingly crazy plays made by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. And tight end Travis Kelce serves as Mahomes’ favorite target. The two are joined at the football hip.

But the Chiefs didn’t win a Super Bowl with only offense. Chris Jones and the defense had something to say.

Jones got the reaction he desired from those antsy fans in the Chiefs Kingdom. They remember those 15.5 sacks this past season along with the 44 tackles and 29 quarterback hits. There were several comments in regards to “pay this man” for the guy dubbed “Stone Cold Jones.” And there was the perfunctory trolling of Bengals fans. That’s required.

Chris Jones terrorized Joe Burrow in AFC title game

The DT was a force in the AFC title game with four tackles, three of them for lost yards. And he sacked Joe Burrow twice, with five QB hits and six quarterback pressures. The stat sheet didn’t flash in the Super Bowl, but Jones loomed large in the win over the Eagles.

“Two Super Bowl championships, two Lombardi Trophies,” said Joe Cullen, Chris Jones’ defensive line coach. “What he’s done, he’s on his way to a Hall of Fame career.”

But the Chiefs know they have to pay Chris Jones. And like Williams with the Jets, the team wants to do the deal before training camp begins in mid-July.

“That’s on the list of things to do,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said this off season. “We’ll spend time (on it) and obviously we have a great relationship with Chris and his (agents Jason Katz and Michael Katz). We’ll get to work and see what we can do. Those things usually take a little bit of time here, so we have a little bit of a runway now until the start of training camp to hopefully get something done.”

Earlier this year, The Athletic reported that Chris Jones wants to be at least the second-highest paid defender in the league. That means he wants to get into the Aaron Donald conversation. Donald, the Rams superstar tackle, is the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Last summer, he signed a $95 million extension that averages $31,666,667 per year.

So hang on Chiefs fans. KC knows your favorite tackle needs to be paid.
