Kansas City Chiefs receiver Justyn Ross has been a stud throughout the preseason, both in games and practices. That continued on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.

Ross hauled in a 3-yard touchdown pass during the second quarter to cut Cleveland’s lead to 22-10. It was his second touchdown reception of the preseason after he missed all of last year with an injury.

Justyn Ross has been working to earn a spot in the receiver rotation for the Chiefs after going undrafted following the 2022 NFL draft. He was one of the best receivers in the country during his time at Clemson, before injuries late during his college career derailed his chances of becoming a high draft pick.

He is now healthy and getting a shot to show off what he can do.

“It’s been great, and obviously everyone knows the fast start he had in college. Then he got sidetracked by some injuries. Last year our training staff did a great job with him of bringing him back and giving him the time he needed,” Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach said during the broadcast. “And I think halfway through the OTAs, I really think you started to see it click and he started to get that confidence and that self belief back. It’s continued on through training camp, so we’re certainly expecting big things from Justyn this year.”

More on Chiefs WR Justyn Ross

Justyn Ross had an incredible first season at Clemson, catching 46 passes for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

It was the College Football Playoff semifinals and finals that introduced him to a nation of college football fans. He caught six passes for 148 yards and two long touchdowns in a semifinal rout of Notre Dame. In Clemson’s national title win over Alabama, Ross caught six passes from Trevor Lawrence for 153 yards and a score.

Ross had a solid season as a sophomore, too, but ahead of the 2020 season, he had surgery for a congenital fusion in his spine. That forced him to miss the entire year. He returned for 2021 and was the top receiver for Clemson but was also slowed by a foot injury. He is now making big plays once again.

Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes certainly is noticing Ross.

“Yeah, he’s had a good one,” Mahomes said of Ross during the preseason. “Learning the offense fast, you can tell he’s been in the offense for a year now. Obviously, making big plays, he’s getting more and more involved in those first-team reps. And so a guy that I have a lot of hope for that he can be a really good player in this offense.”
