Kansas City Chiefs waive center Darryl Williams
The Kansas City Chiefs waived center Darryl Williams on Tuesday, according to NBC’s Pro Football Talk. Williams went undrafted in 2020 upon graduating from Mississippi State, but later signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent.
Williams did not make the roster out of preseason that year. However, the Chiefs still liked what they saw out of him enough to add him to their practice squad. Williams signed a futures contract earlier this year.
Williams was a a three-year starter in Starkville from 2017-19. During his senior season, he played 755 snaps from scrimmage, the second-most of any player on the team. He also helped pave the way for Bulldogs running back Kylin Hill to lead the SEC with 1,350 yards rushing.
Kansas City is coming off of a 12-5 finish this past season in which they lost in the AFC Championship to Cincinnati. Even with the loss of Darryl Williams, the Chiefs still have starting center Creed Humphrey and veteran Austin Reiter. They will kick off the season on Sept. 11 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Brandon Flowers retires from NFL with Chiefs
After nine very successful seasons in the National Football League, Brandon Flowers signed a one-day contract on Thursday with the Kansas City Chiefs. The one-day deal ensured he can officially retire from the National Football League with the team that originally selected him in the second round (35th overall selection) of the 2008 NFL Draft.

The former Virginia Tech standout previously retired with the LA Chargers back in Aug. 8, 2017.
Coming out of Hargrave Military Academy (Chatham, Va.) Flowers was one of the more underrated defensive back prospects in America, earning a three-star ranking from a major recruiting service. He wasn’t even listed among the nation’s top defensive backs, but proved to be an immediate star on the football field with his stellar play for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
