As Kevin Harvick prepares for his last ride around Michigan International Speedway, his kids planned a surprise for their dad. Harvick is on his NASCAR retirement tour and Michigan is a special one. Five wins in the last seven races, and a few rides to victory lane with his son Keelan and daughter Piper.

Last season’s win was the first ride along for Piper who is just five years old now. As for Keelan, he’s gotten to do it a couple of times now. The 11-year-old is now racing internationally and throughout the United States in kart racing and Legend Car events.

There have been a lot of great tributes for The Closer this year. However, these moments with his kids have to be the best for Kevin Harvick. Keelan and Piper went to work on a helmet design together and it looks awesome.

Harvick will sport this design this weekend at Michigan.

Kevin Harvick has simply dominated the last five years at Michigan. His wins and his top-5 finishes put him among the best to ever do it at the 2-mile track. The Irish Hills are almost like a second home to the California native with all of the wins he’s collected.

This weekend, the Stewart-Haas Racing veteran will try to put the 4 car in victory lane once again. It would be his seventh win at the track all-time in the Cup Series. However, Harvick isn’t favored heading into the weekend.

Is Kevin Harvick underrated heading into Michigan?

While he hasn’t won a race this season, Kevin Harvick is the top non-winning driver in the points. He was a top-5 driver for most of the season and has since slipped a bit. He’s now fought his way back to sixth in the points standings overall. He trails Kyle Busch but leads drivers such as Ross Chastain, Kyle Larson, and Ryan Blaney.

Despite his great history at the track, Harvick is not listed as the favorite. In fact, he’s tied for third overall with Martin Truex Jr. and William Byron. All three drivers are listed at 8-1 odds heading into the weekend.

Points will not be a concern for Harvick. So, he can race for wins the rest of the season. With just one DNF on the year, Harvick has kept a steady wheel and that shows in the points. He could still finish in the top-3 if everything works out for him and his team in the last month of the season.

While the summer started off rough for Kevin Harvick, he’s started to turn things around. He had an awful stretch from Nashville to Chicago and finally, it ended in Atlanta. P24, P29, and P30, respectively in those races.

However, since then, The Closer has put on some impressive performances. Even when his team and other Fords weren’t doing well. P4 at New Hampshire and Pocono in back-to-back weeks showed he had fight left in him. P10 at Richmond in an overall solid performance.

Kevin Harvick has some momentum and he’s heading to a track that means so much to him personally. You have to think that he will pull out all the stops to have one more ride with Piper and Keelan to victory lane at Michigan International Speedway.
