Earlier today, it was announced that Kurt Busch had pled guilty to DWI in North Carolina. He was also sentenced as a result. The retired NASCAR driver has now released his own statement on the matter.

Kurt Busch mentioned that he is working on his return to racing. This likely alludes to his position at 23XI Racing. However, Busch didn’t exactly rule out racing outside of the Cup Series when he retired.

Here is the statement from Busch, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports:

“I take full responsibility for my recent DWI arrest and deeply regret my actions. I voluntarily completed a pre-trial assessment and followed all recommendations ahead of my court date. I’m committed to making amends, ensuring this never happens again, and returning to racing with a renewed focus. Thank you to everyone who has supported me.”

Kurt Busch seems apologetic and is doing all he can to amend for his mistakes. Luckily no one was hurt while Busch was caught speeding while intoxicated.

The original incident occurred on August 13 around 11:40 PM. According to law enforcement, Busch was pulled over for speeding. He was reportedly going 63 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. His breathalyzer test showed a BAC of 0.17.

Despite his retirement, his statement had fans wondering if he could be talking about driving himself again. While it is doubtful, maybe some short track races in the Truck Series or Xfinity Series could be in his future?

Right now, Busch should focus on what he has to do to make things right. Then the other things can follow.

Kurt Busch pleads guilty to DWI

For an incident dating back to August, Kurt Busch has pleaded guilty to Driving While Impaired, and had other charges dropped. Earlier this year, the retired NASCAR driver acknowledged the original incident on social media, accepting responsibility for his actions.

While retired from driving in NASCAR, Kurt Busch still has a strong working relationship with 23XI Racing, as well as being an ambassador for Monster Energy. Neither the team nor brand has released comment on the situation.

Busch was charged with DWI. He had charges for reckless driving and speeding dropped. The driver received a 60-day suspended sentence for the next 12 months. He will be on unsupervised probation during that time, according to TMZ.

Kurt Busch also has community service hours tied to his sentence. He must complete 24 hours on top of paying a community service fee. Busch will forfeit his driver’s license as part of the guilty plea. He can apply for limited driving privileges in the near future.
