While Kyle Busch came into the FireKeepers Casino 400 with high hopes, he left with a DNF before the race was halted due to rain. Busch was racing hard with Ryan Blaney, the two made slight contact, Busch lost his aero and into the wall, he went. The NASCAR champion was obviously frustrated after the wreck.

Kyle Busch has harped on the old versus new way of racing all season. Respect for others on the track is just not the same as it used to be and drivers have adjusted to that in many ways. Still, no amount of adjusting was going to save the No. 8 Chevy today.

After he got out of the infield care center, Busch talked to the media about the incident.

“We touched a little bit and that’s when you lose all the air and you spun out,” Busch said.

When asked about the racing that led up to the wreck, Kyle Busch explained further.

“They all run hard they all want to race to crash. I tried to make a move and in the old days, guys you were racing they’d let you go and have that spot and work for it later. But this day and age is completely different. So, I’ve got a guy that ran on my outside and took the air off.”

Kyle Busch regular season championship hopes gone

There was a chance that Kyle Busch could have won the regular season championship this year, that was before the wreck. Busch wasn’t that far off from Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. However, with his DNF in Michigan, that gap is only going to grow and hurt Busch more.

It really doesn’t help when both Truex and Hamlin seem to have speed at Michigan. That means they will be able to pick up points. That will create a larger gap between themselves and the rest of the NASCAR field.

This race produced a few wrecks early on. Before things came to a halt at 74 laps, f incidents took drivers out. Busch, Chase Elliott, William Byron, Christopher Bell, and Josh Berry all fell victim to the race track on Sunday.

Kyle Busch will be better served trying to finish the regular season as best he can and focusing on the playoffs. With three wins on the season, Busch is one of the drivers to watch. When it comes to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship this year, he’ll be a favorite.
