Kyle Busch is appreciative of Richard Childress having his back during his feud with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. that started over the weekend.

After Busch wrecked Stenhouse Jr. during the All-Star Race, Stenhouse Jr. waited for Busch after the race, and threw a massive right hook at the former NASCAR Cup Series champion after the checkered flag waved. Then, Stenhouse Jr. threatened to wreck the No. 8 during the Coca-Cola 600 this weekend.

On Tuesday evening, Childress weighed in on the situation and offered some fiery thoughts on how things would’ve gone if he was at the All-Star Race. Then, he issued a fierce warning to Stenhouse if he follows through on his initial promise this week at Charlotte – which he later walked back.

“I would’ve jumped right in the middle of it,” Childress said, speaking at the Helping A Hero Patriot Award Dinner on Tuesday. “… I don’t fight as fair as I used to. I’m a little older. Ricky Stenhouse said that he was going to wreck the 8 car at Charlotte.

“Well, when I see him, I’m gonna tell him if he does, I’m older, but I’ve just changed my style of fighting. He’ll carry a rough ass-beating.”

Of course, Busch appreciated the anger and vigor that Childress spoke with, as the No. 8 wheelman elaborated on his feelings while speaking with Charlie Marlow on Kenny Wallace’s YouTube channel.

“I’ve been on that end of things before, you know. I know Richard, and his meanings and how he feels about his team and everybody that works for him, and he’s passionate about the sport in general,” Busch explained. “Obviously we know that the ’79 Daytona 500 was built on that. But you know, it’s just the nature of what he’s all about, and that’s protecting what’s his, and what he believes is the right way to go.”

While many want to see what would happen if Stenhouse Jr. wrecked Busch at Charlotte, it doesn’t look like that’ll be happening this weekend.

The No. 47 wheelman evidently spoke regarding the altercation and subsequent war of words, apparently squashing the beef with both parties moving on from the incident in North Wilkesboro, according to Danielle Trotta of Motortrend.

“Ricky also says he called RC this morning to squash the beef with 8 team and Kyle Busch,” Trotta reported. “RC told him do what you will with Kyle just don’t wreck my race cars. Ricky says in his mind the feud is over.”

Still, Richard Childress was in Kyle Busch’s corner when he needed it, and that’s going to mean the world to the No. 8 wheelman as they move forward, looking for better results in 2024.
