This week, Kyle Larson is attempting “Double Duty” but on the dirt, traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma for two major races. Larson made a surprise return to the Chili Bowl entry lists this week. Most figured the NASCAR star would be content racing the Wild West Shootout in his Dirt Late Model.

Of course, Kyle Larson is never content just doing one thing at a time. Later this year, he will race 1100 miles in a single day, competing in both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. This time, he goes from Vado to Tulsa for two major dirt races.

His first night in Vado did not go according to plan. Early in the race, Larson had a suspension issue, which led to a caution and a disappointing finish. He still has a chance to pull it off in the final on Saturday.

Larson won the Chili Bowl in 2020 and 2021 but sat out last season due to concerns over the low purse. This season, the purse has gone up and Larson has decided to attempt to get his title back. He has to finish top-two in his prelim tonight if he wants to make his double work out.

The only problem for now, the racer forgot his gear bag back in New Mexico. He’s now in Oklahoma.

While I’m sure Kyle Larson can find some gear before he has to race, it has to be a headache to go through. If this is a dry run for the Indy-Charlotte double, then Larson has learned a very valuable lesson. Always know where your bag is.

It is going to be exciting to see Larson racing at the Chili Bowl again. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is also a late entry in the event, adding to the hype behind one of the year’s biggest races.

Kyle Larson made early morning call to Keith Kunz

I’m sure that Kyle Larson was watching all of the fun the folks at the Chili Bowl were having and he just couldn’t stand it anymore. On Tuesday morning, Larson rang up Keith Kunz and inquired him about a ride in Tulsa.

It just so happened that Kunz had a ride for the two-time Chili Bowl champion. The car will be sponsored by DH Horton, FloRacing, and HendrickCars.com.

So far this week, things haven’t gone Larson’s way. His start in New Mexico was definitely not what he imagined it to be. However, there are things you have to overcome in racing. Heading to the Chili Bowl, Larson will attempt to pull off the Dirt Double.

Is this going to be Kyle Larson’s third Chili Bowl title in five years??
