Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is facing a $25,000 fine after he cursed at a Cleveland fan this past week. Irving’s comments to the fan during the second quarter of Brooklyn’s 114-107 loss on Monday were captured on video.

“I got y’all a championship and motherf***ers still ungrateful,” the guard can be heard saying in the video.

Irving, along with LeBron James, helped deliver an NBA title to Cleveland in 2016. The Cavaliers were down 3-1 in the series against the Warriors before winning three straight to claim a championship. Irving averaged 27.1 points per game in that Finals series.

After the Warriors defeated Cleveland in the Finals the following season, Irving requested a trade in the offseason. He was shipped to the Boston Celtics, where he made an appearance in the 2018 Eastern Conference Finals, losing to James and the Cavaliers.

Kyrie Irving isn’t the only NBA player to be fined for “obscene language” this season. Teammate Kevin Durant as well as Knicks forward Julius Randle were fined recently for their comments in interviews.

Irving only recently started playing this season after sitting out the first three months. He made his debut on Jan. 5 against Indiana, scoring 22 points in a victory. The guard remains unvaccinated against COVID-19, and thus is still ineligible to play in the Nets’ home games because of a state law.

Despite joining the Nets in the 2019-20 season, Irving has yet to play 82 games throughout his entire career in Brooklyn. His 54 games this past season were the most he has played since becoming a Net. Irving said Monday that he isn’t changing his stance on vaccination, meaning Brooklyn fans likely won’t see him at home all season.

The Nets next game comes against the San Antonio Spurs at 8:30 p.m. Friday. It is a road game, so expect to see Irving on the court for that one.
