Several Las Vegans gathered with their dogs Saturday morning to participate in a walk of honor for 23-year-old Tina Tintor, who was the victim of a DUI crash involving former Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III. Tintor, along with her dog, Max, died as a result of the wreck, which occurred earlier this month.

Owners wrapped white bandanas around their furry friends as a symbol of peace and angels. More than 200 people then took off, walking their dogs around a town square shopping center.

“We heard about Max and we thought we would come and support and help Max go over the great golden rainbow,” one woman said. “We are really sorry. We lost two wonderful souls off the earth.”

According to the police report, Ruggs is accused of driving 156 miles per hour through a suburban area, miles away from the Las Vegas strip. His speedometer read 127 mph when airbags deployed. In addition, Ruggs blood alcohol level read .161, more than twice the legal limit. Police also found a loaded gun inside the car.

Probation is not an option for a conviction of DUI causing death in Nevada. The charge carries a possible sentence of between two and 20 years in prison. The possible sentence for reckless driving is between one and six years in prison, with probation possible.

Some members of Tintor’s family were in attendance for the walk Saturday. Vegas resident Kyle Grijalva said this gesture was as much to offer them comfort as it was to honor Tintor and Max.

“I just wanted to show support of what happened,” he said. “This is a tragedy. We want to show their family that we are behind them and we want justice.”

The Raiders released Ruggs shortly after news of the accident broke. He faces five charges as a result of the accident, which could lead to him serving as many as 50 years in prison.

Although the situation is horrible, Saturday was a reminder that good things can come out of the worst times. Hopefully the display of unity is able to lift the spirits of the family of Tina Tintor as they continue to mourn their loss from the DUI crash.
