Tom Brady staggering off a boat, drunk, in Tampa celebrating his Super Bowl title with the Buccaneers, is one of the enduring images of his time playing in Florida. And it left a lasting — good impression — with some teammates.

During an appearance on “Good Morning Football,” former Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette recalled that day in the summer of 2020. And he of course remembered it fondly.

“It was exciting, it was fun. It was crazy to see him enjoy — I’m quite sure he probably enjoyed it with the Patriots,” Fournette said, ‘but he didn’t enjoy it like he did with us. The boats, it was summer, it was hot. And he was lit! We was lit.”

That day, of course, Brady became visibly intoxicated and required some assistance to get from sea to shore, and then to a car to whisk him home. He jokingly tweeted about it, blaming the avocado tequila he had been drinking on the boat to celebrate.

Not a bad memory to share, given that a Lombardi Trophy was involved.

Fournette also recalled Brady’s pregame Super Bowl speech

The two shared the backfield for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during their 2020 Super Bowl victory, and Fournette shared one of his favorite parts from that experience.

“So for me, his pregame speech was legendary,” Fournette said. “He didn’t drop that many f-bombs, but it was just about your last name being remembered and you just joining a fraternity for life being a Super Bowl winner.”

Brady’s speech clearly got the job done, as the Bucs would go on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. Fournette would go on to rush for 89 yards and a touchdown as well as recording four catches for 46 yards, finding an extra level of motivation from Brady’s speech given his circumstances at the time.

“And especially what I went through that year, I got cut by Jacksonville, so it was just motivation for me and by just him, that speech, made it just made it 10 times more better for me to go out there and perform and to help us win a Super Bowl,” Fournette said.

The win would mark Brady’s seventh Super Bowl victory of his career, as Fournette explained how Brady’s experience and dedication to the process made his words said before the game resonate even more than your average QB.

“I mean he’s won six of them, so he knows what he’s talking about and he knows what it takes. But just the preparation you see from him throughout the week. Like when we played against the Saints, he was like Lenny you’ll get the ball, I’m going to throw the ball to you 10, 11 times. You’re going to be the reason why we win this game. So his craft and how he studied the game, his preparation is second to none. And you see why he’s where he’s at and how he’s become the GOAT,” Fournette said.
