Following his team’s win over the Ravens on Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman is going viral for his, now, correct prediction from August that he would be playing the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Hardman was a test subject for Oz Pearlman, a.k.a. the Mentalist, during the New York Jets’ appearance on Hard Knocks this summer. During his mentalism session, the former Jet predicted that his team would face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, and win 31-21.

Hardman may not have been able to predict that he’d wind up back with the Kansas City Chiefs due to a trade after just five games with the Jets, but he did correctly guess that he would be back in the Super Bowl and that his opponent would be San Francisco. The 49ers beat the Detroit Lions 34-31 on Sunday night, setting up a rematch of Super Bowl LIV in 2020, which Kansas City won 31-20.

Pearlman was eerily able to deduce what Hardman was going to predict during that Hard Knocks episode, but that clip was a highlight for the wideout’s time in New York. Hardman signed with the Jets before the 2023 season after spending his first four years with the Chiefs.

The Jets signed Hardman to a $4 million-a-year deal under the expectation he would be one of several pass catchers for Aaron Rodgers. After Rodgers’ injury, it all went downhill. He caught one ball for six yards before the Chiefs traded a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Jets for him and a 2025 seventh-round pick.

Since the trade, Hardman’s made 17 catches for 129 yards and no score. It’s been the least productive year of his career so far, but it could still net him a Super Bowl ring if all goes as he hopes in Las Vegas.

Hardman will be a free agent come March unless the Chiefs decide to extend his contract before his one-year deal runs out. In his prior four seasons, Hardman made 26 starts for the Chiefs, snagging 152 catches for more than 2000 yards and 16 touchdowns.

In the postseason, the former Georgia Bulldog has scored two touchdowns for the Chiefs, one each coming in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. He didn’t post a reception in the win over the Ravens on Sunday but he had two catches for five yards in the two previous games against the Bills and Dolphins.
