The Miami Dolphins and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have mutually agreed to part ways, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Fangio spent just one season in Miami after arriving from Philadelphia, where he was a consultant in 2022.

Now it looks like he will return to the Eagles, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Fangio is the “top target” to replace Sean Desai as defensive coordinator.

“Fangio now will be the top target for the Philadelphia Eagles to hire as their defensive coordinator, and a deal is expected,” Schefter tweeted. “Miami is allowing Fangio to leave to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania. Fangio and the Eagles had an interest in working together in 2023, but the timing didn’t work. This time it will.”

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel released a statement on parting ways with Fangio. Miami ranked 22nd in scoring defense and yards allowed per play (5.1).

“I want to thank Vic for his contributions in 2023,” McDaniels said. “When we assessed the season, it became apparent that this was the best path forward for all parties involved. Now, we turn our focus to 2024 and beyond as we identify the best candidate to lead our defense moving forward. We remain steadfastly committed to the development of our players and to building a winning team with sustained success.”

Vic Fangio has nearly four decades of experience as an NFL coach. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2019-21, leading them to a 19-30 record before parting ways with the franchise.

Eagles interview Texas QB coach Jerrod Johnson for OC job

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly interviewed Houston Texans quarterback’s coach Jerrod Johnson for the offensive coordinator job, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Texans’ QB coach Jerrod Johnson interviewed for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job, per source,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.

It’s the latest intriguing name to pop up in the Eagles’ OC search after parting ways with Brian Johnson.

Previously, the Eagles interviewed former Arizona Cardinals head coach and current USC analyst Kliff Kingsbury.

Johnson was integral to the development of Texans rookie quarterback CJ Stroud this season. Stroud, the No. 2 overall pick, led Houston to an AFC South title and a Wild Card playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns this year.

Under, partly, Johnson’s coaching, Stroud finished his rookie year with 4,018 yards, 23 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 63.9% completion percentage.

Johnson is a former Texas A&M quarterback who went undrafted in 2011 and had numerous preseason and practice squad stints with NFL teams, including the Eagles and other professional leagues. He began his coaching career in 2017 with the San Francisco 49ers with a Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.
