Brooks Koepka won his fifth major championship over the weekend, winning the PGA Championship at Oak Hill. Unfortunately for Koepka, he was far from the story of the tournament as Michael Block stole the show. The head PGA Professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in California defied the odds and finished in the top 15 — ahead of some of golf’s biggest names.

Block has become the name to know around the sport, with plenty of support flooding in following his performance. He revealed nearly 4,000 text messages have come in, including one from NBA legend Michael Jordan. The exact text from Jordan has not yet been found by Block as there are still plenty of others to go through.

“Michael Block revealed he’s gone through 2,000 texts and has about 1,600 more to go since he arrived at Colonial,” Jonathan Wall of Golf.com said via Twitter. “Mentioned there’s one in there from Michael Jordan, but he hasn’t found it — yet.”

Jordan is no stranger to the golf course, with his love for the game continually being documented. Maybe somewhere in the future, Block and Jordan will get to play a round together. Block will likely need to bring some of his Oak Hill winnings with him for a few side bets.

Michael Block shines at PGA Championship, heading to Fort Worth

Block finding himself in the place he was entering Sunday was incredible enough. And then the final four holes happened, willing him to a top 15 finish. Now, Block has automatically qualified to play in the PGA Championship next year at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

The hole-in-one on No. 15 will live famously for a long time. Any kind of hole-in-one is special but Block’s situation makes everything that much more magical. He did not even know it went in until Rory McIlroy gave him a huge on the tee box.

Three holes later, Block had an incredible up-and-down, followed by a putt, to save par. That got him into the top 15 and earned his exemption for next year’s PGA. Koepka was in the middle of winning the tournament but Block completely stole the show.

News only got better for Block as shortly after his final round, he was invited to play at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, TX. His journey on the PGA Tour will be extended this upcoming weekend and hopefully, will be in a similar position at Valhalla next year.
