Michael Irvin omitted from NFL Network's 2023 lineup
Since leaving NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage after an incident in an Arizona hotel, former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin has been off the air. The network released its list of contributors for the 2023 season this week and Irvin was still not included.
The NFL Network pulled Irvin from their coverage after a woman, who worked at a Phoenix-area Marriott-owned hotel, accused the former Miami star of making lewd comments and touching her without her consent. She also said he told her he’d find her later in the week while he was staying at the hotel. The incident resulted in Irvin moving hotels.
Video from the pair’s interaction in the lobby showed the former Cowboys legend talking animatedly with the female hotel employee, however, the footage, which Irvin showed at a press conference, did not include audio to either confirm or deny the lewd remarks he allegedly made.
Irvin denied the allegations and even filed a $100 million lawsuit against Marriott. However, he never filed against NFL Network for suspending him.
Despite the unfortunate turn in Irvin’s broadcast career, it appears he has a new home, at least for the time being.
Irvin joined fellow former NFL stars Keyshawn Johnson and Richard Sherman on Skip Bayless’s retooled Undisputed this week. The show underwent major changes to the format after Shannon Sharpe left earlier this summer.
NFL Network adds six new analysts
The NFL Network has announced the addition of six new analysts ahead of the start of the 2023 regular season. The network’s new talent will assist with studio shows, Super Bowl coverage, the NFL Scouting Combine and the NFL Draft.
Per NFL Media’s release, these are the six individuals joining the network for the upcoming season:
- Gerald McCoy (former DT)
- Chase Daniel (former QB)
- David Shaw (former Stanford HC)
- Leslie Frazier (former NFL HC)
- Pep Hamilton (former NFL OC)
- Robert Turbin (Super Bowl-winning RB)
NFL Network released a statement regarding the additions to the analyst pool this week.
“Former All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, 14-year veteran quarterback Chase Daniel, former Stanford head coach David Shaw, former head coach and long-time assistant coach Leslie Frazier, former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton, and Super Bowl champion running back Robert Turbin have joined NFL Network as analysts, it was announced today,” the statement read.
All six will appear on a variety of NFL Network studio shows, as well as the network’s coverage of such events as the Super Bowl, NFL Scouting Combine, and NFL Draft.
The announcement comes just days before the start of the 2023 NFL regular season. The first game of the season is set for Thursday, Sept. 7 between the Detroit Lions and Kansas City. NBC carries the coverage with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET.
