Former Dallas Cowboys wideout Michael Irvin attempted to share some sage advice with edge rusher Micah Parsons this week as the NFL star engaged in debate regarding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Parsons’ criticism of the young QB spurred 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel to defend his teammate, which promoted Irvin to advise Parsons to avoid a back-and-forth.

The Cowboys could once again face the 49ers in the playoffs this year and Irvin doesn’t want San Francisco to get any more ammunition than they already have. The 49ers have bounced Dallas from the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

“When I saw it I thought, I like Deebo standing up for Brock Purdy. This is the time we’re in now. Athletes now, a lot of them, are going to their own platforms. Micah Parsons told me at the draft, ‘I’m going to do what you do. I’m going to win Super Bowls just like you won Super Bowls. Broadcasting too.’ He has that personality, he has that desire. I have no issue with the man trying to get the early headstart.”

“Now, when you’re on the Dallas Cowboys and it gets so much attention, yeah, things get hyped and blown up. You’re worried about it giving San Fran more hype, it absolutely is,” Irvin added. “They’ll come in hyped because of it but Micah Parsons has to match that. I don’t have a problem with guys talking back and forth. That’s the NFL now.”

Micah Parsons questions Brock Purdy’s MVP candidacy

Parsons was active on social media after the 49ers’ 33-19 loss against the Baltimore Ravens. Speaking out on topics that are trending around the league is nothing new for the former Nittany Lion. He hosts a weekly show on YouTube in conjunction with Bleacher Report.

“Down 21 and there no shots or development throws!” Parsons tweeted. “Should tell you all you need to know!”

“So is MVP numbers, wins, strength of schedule, interceptions do or don’t matter?!” he added. “Like what’s the qualification because we’re all over this year!!”

“Back to Micah Parsons,” Samuel responded, “Bro, we beat you [42-10] a long time ago. I don’t get why he’s so bothered about what we got going on over here or whatever the case may be.”

Brock Purdy went 18-for-32 for 255 yards with four interceptions in the loss against the Ravens. He was a leading candidate for the league’s MVP award before the performance on Monday night.
