Although quarterback Anthony Richardson‘s career hasn’t gotten off to the most ideal start in Indianapolis, the rookie has been winning over pundits to his side regardless. One former player in his corner is FOX analyst and former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.

Because of various injuries, Richardson has hardly been able to finish a game and is now headed to injured reserve due to an AC joint sprain in his shoulder. One healthy, Vick believes the former Gator can develop into one of the top quarterbacks in the league, akin to Philadelphia’s current star Jalen Hurts.

“I think Anthony can be Jalen Hurts… Kyler MurrayCam Newton,” Vick said in a phone interview with AFC South reporter Ben Arthur. “[He can be] a productive quarterback who can be a dual threat at all times and be a nightmare for defenses — as he gets comfortable, as he gets more snaps.

“He came out of Florida a little early and is kind of learning on the fly now. The sky’s the limit for him. I think to make a quarterback great, he has to be with the right offensive mind and I think Shane Steichen knows exactly what he’s doing and he’s proving it. So he landed in a good spot. It’s just going to take a couple years to know what Anthony Richardson’s talent will truly be.”

Richardson began his Colts tenure going 50-for-84 for 577 passing yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also has 136 rushing yards on 25 carries with four more touchdowns.

Richardson out 4-6 weeks

Prior to his injury last week, Richardson began the game against the Titans 9-of-12 passing for 98 yards. He also took one sack for a loss of 17 yards.

The Colts led 10-6 before the QB’s injury. They ended up defeating the Titans 23-16 with Gardner Minshew filling in for the rookie. Minshew finished the game going 11-for-14 for 155 yards.

During his interview, Michael Vick offered his best advice to Richardson as he goes through his rehab process on IR.

“I would say right now, while nursing the injury, just stay into it, stay in the film room, keep learning,” Vick said. “Learn from Gardner Minshew. And keep building his football intellect. Keep building that catalog because at some point, these injuries, they come and go. When he’s in Year 3 or 4 … and he gets nicked up and might have to miss two or three games, you gotta keep your mind into it. So when you do come back, you can just dive right back in and pick up where you left off.”

This weekend, the Colts take on the Jacksonville Jaguars – Minshew’s former squad – at 1 p.m. on CBS.
