Six years after retiring from the NFL, Michael Vick is getting back in the game.

Vick, 41, is preparing to play in the Fan Controlled Football game and will make his debut on May 28 — the last day of the regular season, he told Reuters’ Frank Pingue. He isn’t on a roster yet, but the plan is for him to play for somebody that day. He hasn’t played professional football since 2015 when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Vick is considered one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history, showcasing his ability to make plays with his arm and his legs. During his 13-year NFL career, he threw for more than 22,000 yards and 133 touchdowns and rusher for more than 6,000 yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground.

A former No. 1 overall pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL Draft, Vick missed the 2007 and 2008 seasons as he spent 21 months in jail for his role in a dogfighting ring. He returned to the league in 2009 as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and stayed there through the 2013 season. That’s when he headed to the New York Jets in 2014 before wrapping up his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015.

Since retiring, Vick has worked as an analyst for FOX Sports since 2017 and briefly worked as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football in 2018. Now, he’s going to get back onto the field as a player instead of heading back to the sidelines.

Before his NFL career, Vick starred at Virginia Tech from 1998 to 2000. After redshirting his freshman season in 1998, Vick threw for 3,279 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,216 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Fan Controlled Football League started in 2017, but has landed some big names this season. Former Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel and six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terrell Owens are also playing in the league.
