Recently the Dallas Cowboys have expressed a desire to get star quarterback Dak Prescott more mobile in the upcoming season. That concept did not sit well with NFL Network’s Rich Eisen. During a recent interview with former Pro Bowl quarterback Michael Vick, he let his stance be known on the topic. However, Vick, being a veteran of the game, sees it different from Eisen and explains what he thinks the strategy is behind the Cowboys gameplan for Prescott.

“You know, there’s such thing as reverse psychology too, Rich,” said Vick. “Like he could be saying that just to make the first four teams that they face during the season be a little leery of what Dak might be trying to do. You might see it a little bit in preseason, you might see something in game one. But it’s a great strategy and definitely good gamesmanship by the coaches right now.”

With the NFL season still months away from starting, there is no telling what the actual plan will be for Prescott and the Cowboys in the 2022 season. And since it’s June, Vick does not see a reason to buy stock in this report. Cowboy fans will likely have to wait until the start of training camp to get an idea of what their offense will look like. But for now, the prospect of a dual-threat Dak Prescott in the backfield will have to weigh on the mind of fans.

Mike McCarthy expects Prescott, Dallas Cowboys to incorporate more QB run plays

This time last year, there were still questions surrounding Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Nobody was quite sure how he was going to move fresh off a season-ending ankle injury suffered in Week 5 of the 2020 season. Now, a whole season has passed, Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy believes there are no more concerns in that area. In fact, he believes Prescott is going to get more involved in offensive coordinator Kellen Moore‘s run game this year.

McCarthy said Dallas is going to incorporate more designed runs for Prescott this season now that the ankle injury is no longer a concern. He admitted they attempted to be “smart” with how Prescott was used last season, wanting him to ease back into full football speed.

As to why the Cowboys plan on switching it up, McCarthy said his quarterback is “clearly” more comfortable scrambling and taking off running than he was a year ago. The head coach described Prescott as “leaner” and “more flexible” when talking to reporters.

Prescott has been an effective runner throughout his entire career, averaging nearly five yards per carry over six years in Dallas. He has 1,460 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns but the numbers have taken a huge dive over the last three years.
