The Texas Rangers won their first World Series in a stunning run against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. Not only did they beat the Diamondbacks in their home stadium, they won each series on the way to the finals on the road. Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy would love it if some of that good fortune would rub off on his team this weekend as they travel to face the seven-win Philadelphia Eagles.

“Those Rangers. Such an unbelievable run,” McCarthy said Thursday morning during his press conference with the local media. “I think what really jumps out to me is winning the games on the road. Hopefully, we get a little luck from those guys there. That was a great series. A great playoff run.”

The Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays, the Baltimore Orioles, the Houston Astros, and the Arizona Diamondbacks on the way to the club’s first title after 52 seasons. Texas’ star shortstop Corey Seager earned his second World Series MVP award after the 5-0 win on Wednesday.

The DFW area is in full celebration mode following the win on Wednesday night. Arlington ISD even canceled classes for students on Friday so more fans can attend the Rangers’ victory parade.

After riding high off of the Rangers’ win, sports fans in Dallas could be in for a rollercoaster of emotion on Sunday afternoon. The Cowboys-Eagles matchup has postseason implications – and gives the winning NFC East squad bragging rights, at least for the next month or so until Philadelphia travels to AT&T Stadium.

Not making it more than it is but not downplaying the significance of Sunday’s game, McCarthy simply said: It’s Dallas vs Philadelphia.

“I think his game speaks for itself,” McCarthy said. “I mean, it’s the Dallas Cowboys versus the Philadelphia Eagles. And, to me, that’s as far as it needs to go.”

Cowboys prep for rivalry game after win over Rams

The Cowboys made no moves this week ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline, instead opting to keep the roster as-is heading into Week 9. Dallas is fresh off of a 43-20 win over the Rams at home during which the offense and defense established a punishing rhythm.

Dak Prescott’s day actually started with three quick sacks to begin the game. However, once things started clicking with CeeDee Lamb, those issues worked themselves out.

“I think that’s an example of just playing one play at a time,” Prescott said after the game. “It wasn’t pretty [the first few plays] … each play you’ve gotta be locked in. Just take it one play at a time and get momentum. Don’t think about the last play, as sh-tty as it was or it could’ve been.

“Just move forward and stay in the present. I think the guys did that. We could’ve easily put our heads down and started pouting and griping after the first couple of plays. … We responded to each other… communicate.

“And just like when we got rolling, it’s the same thing: one play at a time. Just because it was good, [we need to] stay locked in and stay focused.”

The Cowboys kick off against the Eagles at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday from Lincoln Financial Field.
